The Snapshot of the Nation: An Overview of the Governance Structures and Institutions of the Metis Nation (“Snapshot”) document was prepared through a collaborative effort of the Metis National Council (MNC) and its Governing Members.

The Snapshot document provides a detailed overview of the Métis Nation’s current governance structures and institutions at a national, provincial and community level. As well, it highlights the programs and services delivered to Métis people through these infrastructures and the benefits and results that are being achieved from these initiatives. It is hoped that the Snapshot will now be produced annually and will provide updates on progress and new initiatives being achieved across the Homeland.

As you will see, the Snapshot is an impressive document which spotlights the strength, capacity and ability of the Métis Nation. The Snapshot will be used as a tool to build awareness of the Métis Nation within the federal and provincial governments, the private sector and the Canadian public-at-large. As well, the Snapshot provides Métis citizens the opportunity to take pride in the strength and accomplishments being achieved across the Homeland.

Finally, the MNC would like to thank everyone who contributed to this major undertaking. It was no small feat to pull all of this information together and it is through the collective effort of the entire that this document is a reality. The accomplishments profiled in the Snapshot flow from the hard work, dedication and vision of our people across the nation. I thank all citizens for their undying determination and resolve as we collectively move forward on implementing Métis self-government.
